Can you powder coat galvanized steel?

Yes, but the right prep is important. Hot-dip galvanized outgasses in the oven and will pinhole a finish if it isn't handled -- typically a preheat/degas cycle and appropriate surface prep. We'll tell you what your specific parts need. It's also worth considering that not all galvanizing is created equal -- we do test runs to fine-tune what your parts need.

What about cast iron or cast aluminum?

Cast metals are porous and therefore outgas similarly to galvanized metal. It requires a specific approach, and skipping that approach is why cast iron powder jobs fail. We can handle all specialty substrates.

Do you coat aluminum?

Accepted Answer

All the time. Aluminum needs its own blast media and pretreatment, and we blast it in booths kept clear of carbon steel so you don't get iron embedded in the surface.
